Jun 19, 2012 - New Generation of Unmanaged SMC Switches Help Customers Reduce Energy Costs and Cut Carbon Emissions
8 and 16-Port EZ SwitchTM Models Combine Ease of Installation and Top Performance with Green Design

Hsinchu, Taiwan – 19 June, 2012.

SMC Networks (www.smc.com), a leading provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, today announced the launch of the latest members to the EZ Switch™ 10/100 family: two Fast Ethernet PoE switches SMCFS801P, SMCFS1601P, and the Gigabit Ethernet PoE switch SMCGS801P. PoE ports can automatically detect and supply power to IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant Powered Devices (PDs).

The 8-port SMCFS801P and SMCGS801P products are fanless designs to enabling the unit to run completely silently and reliably in any location. In addition, the SMCGS801P and SMCFS1601P products support QoS (Quality of Service). When two 802.3az-compliant switches are connected, the SMCGS801P can save up to 74% power consumption.

Relying on SMC's proprietary Green Saving technology, the switches allow less power consumption during periods of low activity by detecting both link status and cable distance, thus saving on costs as well as reducing carbon emissions. The switches are able to auto-detect link status and automatically cut off power at a given port during periods when unconnected or a PC is turned off, without any affect on performance or stability.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • PoE Features
  • The switches can provide up to 30 Watts of power to attached devices, such as VoIP phones, wireless access points, surveillance cameras etc, all over existing Category 5 cables (Cat. 5). They can deliver up to 30 Watts on 8 ports, or up to 15.4 Watts on all 16 ports with a total PoE Power Budget 105-200W. They can eliminate the need for individual power sources for devices in the network, saving on costs for power cables and avoiding power outlet availability constraints.

  • Plug-and-Play
  • The switches are completely plug and play; no configuration is necessary. These plug-and-play switches are an ideal choice for integrating Fast/ Giga Ethernet and boosting LAN bandwidth for small to medium-sized workgroups.

  • Auto MDI/MDI-X on Each Port
  • Support for Auto-MDIX means that no cross-over cables are required. Straight-through cables can be used for all connections.
