Dec 4, 2006 - SMC Introduces New Products to Easily Integrate Wi-Fi Telephony
New SMC Wi-i Phone Cradle Chargers— with and without wireless network access point functionality— keep Wi-i phones charged and can even extend the wireless network

Barcelona – 4. December 2006. SMC Networks (www.smc.com) today announced the latest products to complement the company’s Wi-Fi phones: two new phone-charging cradles, one of which offering an integrated wireless access point. The first accessories of their kind to support the full integration of WiFi telephony into the home or office, the SMCDPCR Wi-Fi phone cradle and SMCDPCR-AP cradle/access point are both available in December, at SRPs of EUR 29,99 (SMCDPCR) and EUR 89,99 (SMCDPCR-AP) respectively. SMC’s Skype-enabled WiFi phone has been available since October 2006.

The sleek, compact design of both the SMCDPCR and the SMCDPCR-AP with builtin 802.11g wireless access makes them perfect for keeping Wi-Fi phones charged and ready for use on office or home desktops. An LED on the front of each tells users that the phone is properly seated in the cradle and charging, whilst additional LEDs on the SMCDPCR-AP indicate the presence of LAN and Internet signals.

The double functionality of the SMCDPCR-AP makes it both a charger/cradle and, through the 10/100Mb Ethernet port on the back of the device, an 802.11g access point, so that users have a near-by, optimal signal for VoIP calling and other close wireless clients can also access the network through it. To ensure optimal performance for voice calls over the Internet whilst still serving regular clients, the SMCDPCR-AP has two SSID’s: one solely for VoIP calls and the other for regular wireless clients. The quick and easy setup wizard, the easy-to-use Web-based management system and the industry-leading WPA and WPA2 security make the product both simple and secure.

If convenience increases use, then the new SMCDPCR Wi-Fi phone cradle and SMCDPCR WiFi phone cradle/access point make SMC’s Wi-Fi phone indispensable by keeping it charged whilst also providing the necessary 802.11g signal. The more it is used, the more its user saves: SMC’s Wireless Internet mobile phone (WSKP100) includes Skype™ software that allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and enables users to call ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut™ at a very low cost.
