Nov 20, 2006 - SMC Introduces New Products to Easily Integrate WiFi Telephony
New SMC WiFi Phone Cradle Chargers--with and without wireless network access point functionality-- keep WiFi phones ready and charged, and can even extend the wireless network

SMC Networks (www.smc.com) today announced the availability of products to complement the company’s WiFi phones: two cradles that keep phones charged and ready; one of which even has an integrated wireless access point. The first accessories of their kind to support the full integration of WiFi telephony into the home or office, the SMCDPCR WiFi phone cradle and SMCDPCR-AP cradle/access point are available now, at MSRPs of $19.99 and $69.99, respectively. SMC’s Skype-enabled WiFi phone has been available since July, 2006, at an MSRP of $179.99.
Both of SMC’s new WiFi phone accessories offer users a great way to store and charge their SMC WiFi phones conveniently in the home or office. Their sleek, compact design makes the SMCDPCR WiFi phone charger and the SMCDPCR-AP WiFi phone charger with built-in 802.11g wireless access point perfect for keeping WiFi phones charged and ready on the desktop. An LED on the front of each tells users that the phone is properly seated in the cradle and charging, and additional LEDs on the SMCDPCR-AP indicate the presence of LAN and Internet signals.
The functionality of the SMCDPCR-AP serves double-duty: as a charger/cradle, it keeps the phone charged and ready; and the 10/100Mb Ethernet port on the back of the device turns it into an 802.11g access point, so that users have a close-by and optimal signal for VoIP calling and nearby wireless clients can access the network through it as well. To ensure optimal performance for voice calls over the Internet while still serving regular clients, the SMCDPCR-AP has two SSID’s: one just for VoIP calls, and the other for regular wireless clients. And, a quick and easy setup wizard and easy-to-use Web-based management combined with industry-leading WPA and WPA2 security make it easy and secure.
Convenience increases use, and the new SMCDPCR WiFi phone cradle and SMCDPCR WiFi phone cradle/access point make SMC’s WiFi phone even more convenient to use: keeping it charged and ready, and even providing a nearby 802.11g signal. The more its used, the more its users save: SMC’s Wireless Internet mobile phone (WSKP100) includes Skype™ software that allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and enables users to call ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut™ at a very low cost.
SMC’s Skype-enabled wireless Internet phone, WSKP100, is available now, at an MSRP of $179.99. The new wireless accessories, SMCDPCR WiFi phone cradle and SMCDPCR-AP cradle/access point, are available beginning in December at MSRPs of $19.99 and $69.99, respectively For more information about SMC Networks or its products, visit www.smc.com, or call 800-SMC-4YOU (800-762-4968).
