19th June 2007 - SMC Networks (www.smc.com), a leading provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, today announced the availability of its new SMC Barricade™ N (SMCWBR14-N2) Wireless 4-Port Broadband Router. Designed for both home and office use, Barricade N is an all-in-one networking solution for connecting and sharing high speed cable/xDSL internet connections. As part of the certified 'Works with Windows Vista' family, the Barricade N pro-vides the high speed, coverage and bandwidth benefits of 802.11n in a platform independent, multi-functional router. It combines a high speed Wireless-N access point, firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), intelligent stream handling technology and a user friendly web-based management interface, all in one convenient device. With a built in 802.11n-draft wireless access point, it is capable of data transfer rates of up to 300Mbps - up to 25-times the rate of standard 802.11b devices, and is compatible with legacy 802.11 b/g equipment. Barricade N allows bandwidth demanding applications to be used simultaneously - such as high-definition video and audio streaming, online gaming, VoIP calls and web surfing. By incorporating intelligent stream handling technology, it automatically manages and prioritises the flow of traffic in wireless or wired local area networks (LAN) as well as going to the Internet, without the need for user configuration. With security being a key consideration for both SMB and SOHO establishing wireless networks, Barricade N supports the latest WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption standards, which prevent unauthorized access to wireless networks and ensure data is secure. Wireless security can also be set up easily using Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) that enables push button or PIN configuration. 'The Barricade N is ideal for customers looking for easy data flow management,' said James Harris, Product Manager, SMC Networks. 'It automatically manages the flow of data in the local network or going to the Internet, without needing manual configuration to ensure time-sensitive applications run smoothly.' The SMC Barricade™ N Wireless 4-port Broadband Router SMCWBR14-N2 is priced at €102.99 (MSRP) and is part of SMC Networks' 802.11n Draft 2.0-compliant wireless networking solutions.
