20th September 2007 - SMC Networks (www.smc.com), a leading provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, received Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ 802.11n draft 2.0 designation by the Wi-Fi Alliance® for the Barricade™ Broadband Routers SMCWBR14S-N, SMC7904WBRA-N, SMCWGBR14-N and the EZ Connect™ Wireless USB Adapter SMCWUSB-N. The Wi-Fi Alliance's testing and certification program helps assure that the products are interoperable amongst other 802.11n draft 2.0 products, adhere to security protocols and are both backward and cross compatible with previous generations of Wi-Fi equipment. The newly certified products have also achieved certification for the optional Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ program, which is designed to ease the task of setting up and configuring security in Wi-Fi networks. Amongst the recently Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products are SMC Networks' three broadband routers, the SMC Barricade™ N Broadband Router (SMCWBR14S-N), the SMC Barricade™ N Pro ADSL Router (SMC7904WBRA-N) and the SMC Barricade™ N ProMax Gigabit Broadband Router (SMCWGBR14-N), which all provide complete all-in-one networking for connecting and sharing a high speed cable/xDSL or ADSL2/2+ Internet connection. SMC Networks' EZ Connect™ N Pro Draft 11n Wireless USB2.0 Adapter (SMCWUSB-N), which provides 802.11n speed and coverage benefits for wirelessly connecting desktop and notebook computers, has also earned the certification. The newly certified 802.11n draft 2.0 wireless networking products offer the speed, distance and bandwidth advantages of 802.11n alongside backward and cross-vendor compatibility with 802.11 b/g wireless. The products excel in demanding applications such as network gaming, high definition video streaming, file sharing and VoIP and are capable of data transfer rates of up to 300Mbps - almost six times the rate of 802.11g. 'SMC Networks is committed to efficient and secure wireless connectivity whilst offering full interoperability with legacy and multi vendor devices,' said James Harris, Product Manager, SMC Networks. '802.11n draft 2.0 is an advanced standard for delivering increased throughput, improved range and Quality of Service (QoS) for enhanced multimedia capabili-ties. SMC's support of the Wi-Fi Alliance's 802.11n draft 2.0 certification program demonstrates its work to ensure full industry interoperability and the best user experience for the digital home and the enterprise,' said Wi-Fi Alliance Senior Director, Karen Hanley.
