What are some possible solutions for improving wireless range?  back
To increase the wireless range you can do any one of the following, depending upon the kind of wireless set up you have.
  1. Using Access point [E.g. SMC2655W, SMC2870W, SMCWEBT-G etc.]:
The access point can be hardwired to the router and can be taken as close as possible to the wireless clients. This way the wireless clients that are out of the wireless router's coverage area can be covered.

  2. Using repeaters [E.g. SMC2870W, SMCWEBT-G]:
If you want to use the repeater functionality then you will have to go for two 2870W's, one should be hardwired to the router just like a normal access point and the other one should be placed at the location where you want the wireless signals to be repeated. The second 2870W will repeat the signals of the first one. This way the wireless range can be extended.

  3. Using antennas:
If you have routers like SMC2804WBR, SMC2804WBRP-G whose antennas are detachable, you can go for an antenna in SMCHMANT-4 or SMCHMANT-6. The SMCHMANT-4 will increase the wireless coverage area by 25% and SMCHMANT-6 will increase the coverage area by 50%.

  4. Also ensure that there are no wireless devices like cordless phones or microwave oven, which operates at 2.4ghz nearer to the wireless machine.
