Office Networks
In the office, a wireless network can significantly extend the range and improve office productivity and responsiveness. They can enable new flexible ways of working and conducting business that were not possible before. Not only can people work where they want, but the critical business data does not have to be located in the same building to be viewed or updated. Central shared resources such as file servers, print servers and databases can be located in a secure central building while access can be provided anywhere in the building or from other buildings using wireless bridges.
Wireless access points can be located to optimize the radio coverage by placing them on walls, ceilings or in roof voids. Even if there is no local power source, the access point can be powered through its connection to the wired network with the IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard.

Building-to-Building Network
Companies that occupy more than one building on a campus or business park can find it prohibitively expensive to connect the networks in each building. Even if they own or have access rights to the land between the buildings, digging and burying cables can cost a fortune. If it is not possible to run private cables, then expensive circuits must be leased from a telecommunications company. But if the buildings have a direct line of sight, a wireless connection using external directional antenna can be used to build a wireless bridge between the two networks.

Wireless Hotspots
Business travellers on the road can catch up with their email or download important documents for the next sales meeting while having a break at a motorway service area equipped with a wireless hotspot. For companies which have public access areas, a wireless hotspot solution can be a surprisingly lucrative investment. It can make good economic sense either as a new venture or as an additional service added on to an existing public service such as a hotel, cafe or transportation terminus. The competitive rates for high speed broadband links and wireless broadband equipment mean that anyone with an existing premise and a steady stream of visitors can benefit from a wireless hotspot solution. Depending on the size and layout of the premises, the wireless area can be extended using wireless bridges so that users can roam from cafe to restaurant to lounge while still logged into the single wireless gateway account. In this way, longer sessions can be sold to users and more clients can share the same services.
